This is another goal of my project.Īs for where the books end up, I will live with what Aldiko requires. There isn't any way that I can see to get the equivalent of calibre plugboards - to have the metadata in the DB differ from that in the book. This process does nothing with collections, and (as far as I can tell) gets metadata from the books. My understanding is that Aldiko does scan the import subdirectory to add books to its library. One of the major goals for my project is to directly update that database, managing collections and metadata. Yes, Aldiko does use its own SQLite database. So you would need to manage that database with calibre and I do think the sql file is in the ebooks folder.Īnd I have the same gripe with it as many have with calibre it makes its own folder structure and make it harder to use other software to open the epubs you import into it. I don't have aldiko installed on my phone currently so am not sure but from what I remember once you put your ebook in the ebooks\import folder and import them using aldiko it creates and use its own sql database. I can't say what the performance would be, but probably about the same as the web-based content server. Aldiko Book Reader Aldiko is a popular name in the world of eBooks, and over the years, it has earned a good name primarily because of its simple looks and features. metadata.calibre, finds that calibre added. It might be possible to do some metadata editing, such as on-spreadsheet editing of tags and the like. Then you launch Aldiko Sync in your NOOKColor where it reads, e.g., both library.xml and. I don't know if you would be able to send books the other direction. You would be able to send books from the calibre library to the aldiko library. This client would display the calibre and device libraries. The proxy would make one, so calibre would 'detect' the device when you start the proxy.ģ) Build a Android calibre read-only client. Calibre would wait, testing for a network connection. You would start the proxy, then do something like 'connect to Aldiko' in calibre.Ģ) Same as above, but pull instead of push. Is that a good idea (an extra question)?ġ) A push network proxy that runs on the android device. This does open the possibility of connection and library maintenance over the 'net. The 3 ideas described below would work over-the-air, not over a USB cable. Putting aside any Aldiko-supplied work-around (they are thinking about it), I see 3 possibilities to get around this. It seems that in at least some aldiko configurations, the database won't be visible over a USB removable-drive connection. In hopes that I will eventually have a device, I have been looking at how connection might work. There is a full command line interface and I found a guide that helped with this process at Digital Ocean. Since I was installing this on a headless server I would not be able to do the setup that way. there is anyone who is downloading EPUBs with Android Froyo's Browser or accessing the C/S authenticated with Aldiko I'd appreciate tips.īTW, I know I have the options of connecting the Android device as an ereader (USB), using Save to Disk and Connect to Folder, but the content server is my normal access method. To celebrate the new thread title and the start of contributions ( ), a question. Setup Calibre is normally used as a desktop app that has a server component. You can find and download it from the Android Market on your mobile phone and it comes in two versions free and premium. To get authentication working, I've tried: Aldiko, which appropriately stands for book in Swedish, is an eBook reader that is available for the Android platform. Aldiko will not authenticate with the C/S, however, I can access it by removing the password. Like the user above, the browser will access the content server (but not download EPUBs so far or PDFs - only txt). I'm assuming since it works with the browser, that the problem is at the Aldiko end of things, but I thought it worth asking.,Ĭhristmas day and the wife has purchased an Archos 7o Tablet. I'm not sure what I might need to do to get this working. Click on the + symbol in the upper right corner. We'll add both the private and public face of your books server manually. If it doesn't find your computer, it's no big deal. Stanza will search your local network to see if there is a computer sharing books. It works when I use the Android browser, but not from within Aldiko. Click on the 'Get Books' icon at the bottom of the interface. and can browse and download ebooks! Hurray! However for some reason I cannot get user authentication to work. I'm trying to get the Calibre server and Aldiko to play together, but not all is well.
